PREVENTATIVE MEASURES

The best way to handle a lost pet is to prevent it from happening in the first place. Here are some key steps to keep your pet safe:

Perimeter Checks:
Regularly inspect your yard or property for gaps in fences, holes, or weak spots where your pet could escape. A secure perimeter is your first line of defense against a runaway pet.

Closed Door Policy:
Establish a strict “closed door policy” in your household. Remind family members and guests to ensure doors and gates are always closed, especially during busy times like deliveries or gatherings, to prevent your pet from slipping out unnoticed.

KEEP CALM AND STRATEGIZE

If your pet does go missing, the first step is to stay calm so you can think clearly and act effectively. Here’s how to strategize:

Know Your Pet’s Behaviors:

Consider your pet’s habits. Does your dog tend to run long distances, or does he have a favorite park or neighbor’s house where he might go? Is your cat likely to hide in a nearby shed or tree? Understanding your pet’s tendencies can help narrow down the search area.

Take Note of Key Details:

Write down the last time you saw your pet and their exact location. This information will be crucial for planning the search.

Post on Social Media:

Share a post about your missing pet on local social media pages, especially lost pet groups. Include a clear photo, your pet’s name, description, and the last known location. Community support can be invaluable in spreading the word quickly.
